Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Surgery in Antalya
An inguinal hernia is a protrusion of abdominal contents through a weakness in the abdominal wall. Op.Dr.Gökhan ATEŞ performs laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair (TEP/TAPP) in eligible patients in Antalya.
What is an inguinal hernia?
A protrusion of intra-abdominal organs through a weakened muscle layer in the groin. Symptoms include groin swelling, pain when standing and increased discomfort with strain.
Untreated, complications such as incarceration or strangulation may occur.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis is clinical; ultrasound or CT/MRI may be added when needed.
Laparoscopic technique (TEP / TAPP)
TEP (Totally Extraperitoneal) and TAPP (Transabdominal Preperitoneal) approaches repair the hernia from inside through small incisions and reinforce the abdominal wall with mesh.
Differences from open surgery
Classical open surgery uses a longer groin incision.
The laparoscopic approach uses small incisions; bilateral hernias can be repaired in the same session, with potential advantages in chronic pain and recovery for selected patients.
How is the surgery performed?
Performed under general anaesthesia. Operative time is typically 45–60 minutes for unilateral cases, slightly longer for bilateral cases.
Most patients are discharged the same day or the day after.
Recovery
Return to office work is usually possible within 5–7 days. Heavy lifting is restricted for around 4–6 weeks; assessed at follow-up.

Usually mild to moderate and well controlled with medication.
When can sport be resumed?+
