Laparoscopic Surgery — Antalya Patient Information Center
Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive approach performed through small incisions using a camera and thin instruments. Op.Dr.Gökhan ATEŞ applies this method for eligible patients in Antalya across gallbladder, hernia, bariatric, colorectal and gastric surgery.
What is laparoscopic surgery?
Three to five small incisions are made; the abdomen is insufflated with carbon dioxide and a camera plus instruments are inserted. The surgeon operates while viewing the screen.
Which procedures use it?
Many intra-abdominal procedures can be performed laparoscopically today.
- Gallbladder (laparoscopic cholecystectomy)
- Inguinal, umbilical, incisional and hiatal hernias
- Bariatric and metabolic surgery (sleeve, gastric bypass)
- Colon and rectal surgery
- Appendectomy, spleen, adrenal and selected gastric procedures
Differences from open surgery
Small incisions typically lead to less post-operative pain, shorter hospital stay, faster return to daily life and better cosmetic outcome.
Who is a candidate?
Most patients are eligible. Extensive adhesions, advanced tumours, severe cardiopulmonary disease or certain emergencies may require an open or robotic approach; the decision follows evaluation.
The procedure
Performed under general anaesthesia. Duration varies from 30 minutes to 3-4 hours depending on the operation. Most patients are discharged within 1-2 days.
Recovery and return
Wound care, early mobilization and recommended medication support recovery. Office work is typically resumed within 1-2 weeks; heavy lifting restricted for 3-6 weeks.
Process in Antalya
