Gallbladder conditions
Gallstones, polyps, chronic cholecystitis and acute cholecystitis are the most common conditions.
Symptoms include right upper abdominal pain, discomfort after fatty meals, nausea and, rarely, jaundice.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis is based on examination, ultrasound and, when needed, blood tests, MRCP or CT.
When is surgery recommended?
The decision is based on the clinical picture and imaging findings.

Laparoscopic approach
The gallbladder is removed through 3–4 small abdominal incisions; the method aims at small incisions, less pain and quick recovery.
When intra/extrahepatic bile duct stones are suspected, ERCP may be added and is planned jointly.
How is the surgery performed?
Performed under general anaesthesia. Operative time is around 45–60 minutes.
Most patients are discharged the same day or the day after.
Recovery
Office work is usually possible within 5–7 days. Heavy lifting is restricted for 2–3 weeks; decided at follow-up.
Fatty and spicy foods should be avoided in the first weeks; most patients return to a normal diet over time.
